Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) is a self-supporting entity that maintains and operates the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay Bridges that span Halifax harbour. Reporting to the Painting Supervisor, the Painter (Maintenance Department) is responsible for cleaning and removing failed painting coatings, preparing steel surfaces for painting, and applying paint coating to all parts of the bridge structures.
This position is deemed as a *Safety Sensitive Position as work is completed in variable weather temperatures and adverse weather conditions, working at extreme heights from 170 – 320 feet above the bridge, and in confined spaces below the bridge or in the bridge towers. A critical accountability for this role is following HHB Safety standards, policies and processes, including but not limited to: completing job hazard assessments, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment, ensuring proper access of confined spaces, reporting safety observations, and being able to rescue co-workers as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This is a full-time, temporary seasonal position, working 40 hours per week from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday throughout HHB's summer season (May – October). Overtime will be required based on operational demands, including on weekends. The hourly wage for this position is $20.49 during the probationary period as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
