Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) is a self-supporting entity that maintains and operates the Angus L. Macdonald and A. HHB is looking for energetic students interested in being part of our 2020 Landscaping Crew. Reporting to the Landscaping Supervisor, the Landscaper – Summer Student is a temporary position beginning in late April working until early September. The job entails mowing and line trimming grass, and general gardening.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking.
  • Work with hand tools and basic light machinery such as mowers, whipper snipper, and small diggers.
  • Maintain a clean grounds by clearing rubbish and litter from HHB proprieties.
  • Other related tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered as a full time student and returning to school as a full time student in the following school year.
  • Must be physically able to kneel and perform garden maintenance for several hours at a time.
  • Experience in operation of small equipment, including riding mower, line trimmer, and back pack blower.
  • Able and willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must have satisfactory results of employment reference checks and a criminal background check, as conditions of employment.
  • Able to work in an efficient and safe manner while exhibiting pride in quality work.
  • Experience in working in a team environment.
  • Punctual and dependable with a can-do attitude.

Assets

  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia’s Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge in the care and maintenance of plants, tree, shrubs and lawns.
  • Knowledge of gardening methods and tools.
  • Valid Safety training in WHMIS and/or First Aid. If necessary, these courses will be scheduled by the employer for the successful candidate to complete.

The hours for this position are usually 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Qualified applicants must submit a resume and complete all required screening questions before Sunday March 29, 2020 at 12:00am.
