442A Industrial Electrician Apprentice Opportunity in Ontario

An Industrial Electrician lays out, inspects, assembles, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains (including programming, calibration and preventive/predictive maintenance) electrical equipment and wiring for industrial electrical systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret and use appropriate sections of the current Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

  • Consult manufacturers' manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures.

  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to carry out assigned tasks.

  • Use test equipment to evaluate new, repaired, in-service and stored equipment using manufacturers recommendations and safety precautions.

  • Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical systems and replace faulty parts.

  • Troubleshoot failures and perform necessary repairs.

  • Perform periodic tasks and inspections of equipment and systems to observe operating conditions and determine need for repair or adjustments.

  • Execute preventative maintenance activities including troubleshooting and repairs to all equipment in a timely manner.

  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for processing work orders, weekly schedules, preventative maintenance, labour hours, contractor time and additional tasks as assigned.

  • Provide project insight as identified by management.

  • Participate in safety programs and ensure the application of safety standards for all maintenance operations.

  • Train and guide new employees to carry out tasks safely and based on procedures and practices.

  • Work in a safe productive manner to maximize quality, efficiency and availability while minimizing maintenance cost and unscheduled downtime.

  • Carry out all other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Able to diagnose Electrical problems and expedite repair 

  • Good understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and able to work both safely and efficiently

  • Able to work on rotating shift schedule

  • Organization/planning abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-sufficient, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Safety certified for working in industrial settings (WAH, WHMIS, Workers Health & Safety)

 

Education and Certifications

  • Required: High School Diploma

  • Good to have: Registered Training Agreement in 442A Industrial Electrician
