The NSNU is seeking a dynamic professional to fill a permanent full-time position of Researcher/Government Relations/Occupational Health and Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will report directly to the Executive Director and President, as well as work with the Board of Directors and many Union representatives on behalf of the membership.
The successful candidate is responsible to establish relationships with government, academics, nursing professional and stakeholder organizations with a view to influence potential future legislative and/or regulatory changes. Responsibilities also include monitoring the relevant regulations, legislation, policy, nursing journals, websites, etc. to identify best practices, emerging trends and identify opportunities for NSNU and providing evidence-based research and reports for defining and expanding the role of LPNs, RNs and NPs.
A key role of the position is to provide written briefs, reports and articles/editorials on professional practice and occupational health and safety issues for publication and internal use.
A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred with at least two years’ experience in research and policy development, preferably related to health care and/or nursing. An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with an equivalent combination of experience and other training may be considered. Union experience would be considered an asset.
