Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) is a self-supporting entity that maintains and operates the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, and providing support to the Safety Manager, the Human Resources Generalist is accountable to support the development and administration of a range of human resources and safety programs and processes.  This includes but is not limited to: providing day-to-day human resource advice and counsel to managers/supervisors to resolve HR issues; supporting key HR projects that positively contribute to HHB; effectively implementing HR and Safety policies, procedures and programs.  This position is covering maternity leave finishing approximately February 2022.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Full Cycle Recruitment – job postings internal and external; sorting candidates; forwarding short list to hiring managers; coordinating and leading interview process, providing assistance with the offer process.
  • Onboarding – administration of pre-employment requirements, coordination of employee onboarding with various departments, complete human resources orientation and policy training.
  • Assists with employee/labour relations; researching and responding to questions from employees and management regarding HR programs, policies and procedures; support with concerns/complaints and grievances; HR employee communication support; and collective agreement interpretation.
  • Development and delivery of internal training
  • Manages the employee files; ensuring centralized filing that meets the privacy requirements and adheres to the company retention schedule.
  • Supports the HR vision and strategy implementation by acting as a coordinator on HR projects.
  • Support the review and development of safety policies and communications.
  • Support the pre-employment/return to work screening and testing processes.
  • Develops a strong understanding of applicable laws related to Employment Standards, Human Rights, Privacy, etc. In addition to, an understanding of applicable laws related to OHS, WCB, etc.

 

Qualifications include:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources; ideally with some Occupational Health and Safety accountabilities.
  • Post Secondary Human Resources education.
  • Strong understanding of legislation related to Human Resources; ideally with an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and legislation.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of administrative and operational policies/procedures, training content, planning documentation.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Applications).
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, building and maintaining a network of working relationships with both internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized multi-tasker, self-motivated, detail focused, and able to work without direct supervision or extensive direction.
  • Strong professional and ethical standards, integrity, objectivity and confidence.
  • Skilled in data compilation, tracking, collation, analysis and report development.

 

The hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (35 hours a week) Monday to Friday, however there may be the occasional need for extended hours due to operational demands (evening and/or weekend).
