Welcome To Dutra Landscape - Applying For The Landscape Construction Foreman Position

Reporting into the Project Manager, Crew Foreman are responsible for overseeing all aspects of on-site construction projects. This includes expertise of both ‘hard’ on-the-job skills, as well as ‘soft’ skills like project planning and supervision of Dutra staff. Along with the Project Manager, Foreman will participate in schedule planning and material coordination, and then be responsible for all on-site work. This includes managing on-site crew, and overseeing all skilled aspects of landscape construction projects.

This is a senior level position. Expertise in landscape ‘hardscape’ design is a must, along with strong organization, and interpersonal skills.

Job Requirements - Hard Skills

  • Plan & execute all steps to efficiently and professionally complete residential, hardscape projects. These steps include but are not limited to:
    • Attend initial ‘walk throughs’ and relay landscape design plans to crew members
    • Provide input into original design projects
    • Coordinate with Project Manager and General Manager to ensure sufficient materials are on site for installation
    • Operate and maintain all on-site equipment and machinery, with adherence to company protocols and safety standards
    • Work both independently and lead a team of landscape professionals, to prepare, grade, and install complete landscape designs 
  • Ensure safe operation and cleanliness of the jobsite at all times. This includes operation of on-site machinery, and company vehicles / trailers, 
  • Consistently utilize systems and software to report on job materials, time usage and costs

Job Requirements - Interpersonal

  • Assign and oversee daily tasks of (up to 3) staff
    • Mentor, manage and support Lead Hands, Crew Members & Labourers in their daily operations, supporting learning and development
    • Determine and report job timelines and individual hours of crew
    • Structure the work-day with adequate time and staff resources to balance project outcomes with staffing resources
    • Work with General Manager to complete job evaluations and benchmarking of staff
    • Resolve minor crew conflicts and enforce company policies as needed
    • Communicate to crew via text and email scheduling updates outside of regular work hours
  • Be primary point of contact with clients on site
  • Consistently submit hourly staff tracking and project reports as required
  • Coordinate closely with off-site managers via phone and email

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

Must Haves

  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • A minimum of 4+ years in landscape/hardscape construction experience, with 2+ years experience managing a team of trades professionals
  • G Level license with access to reliable vehicle
  • Experience driving pickup trucks and larger vehicles (truck and trailer)
  • Comfortable working with email, and able to utilize shared calendars (Google Suite)
  • Professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with customers and co-workers

Nice to Haves

  • Background of education in Landscape Design, business management, or related field
  • Experience in Landscape Design
  • Familiarity with Landscape Design software
