Summary

Intek Communications Inc. is looking to fill the position of Human Resource Manager who, under the direction of the General Manager, will primarily be responsible to identify current and prospective staffing requirements, overseeing full cycle recruitment, overseeing personnel management, developing and maintaining company policies, and procedures, managing disability and return to work claims, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies. This role will also oversee the orientation/onboarding of new hires and the training of all employees. This is a full-time, permanent position is located in Markham, Ontario, and reporting to the office daily is required.

Job Duties

 

• Determine staffing requirements and oversee the hiring of staff

• Oversee personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and terminations in compliance with company policies

• Oversee the orientation/onboarding of new hires and the training of all employees

• Develop and source training programs that are based on regulatory requirements and best practices

• Develop, review and revise company policies, including Health and Safety policies, ensuring legislation compliance 

• Administer progressive disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures

• Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals

• Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards

• Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations

• Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations

• Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations

• Handle Workers’ Compensation claims, disability claims, return to work programs and review and monitor all WSIB reports 

• Participate in site and workplace inspections

• Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development

• Complete the company’s annual Employment Equity Report and implement strategies to improve Intek’s representation of the four designated groups

• Negotiation, communications and ongoing administration of Group Benefits programs within the organization

• Monitor assigned payroll activities and/or program components for the purpose of ensuring effective department functioning, coordinating activities and ensuring compliance with established financial, legal, and/or administrative requirements

• Provide information and documentation to Intek’s legal counsel when required

• Manage a staff of 2-3 Administrators, trainers and recruiters

• Update and maintain various systems and programs including Human Resources Information Management Systems, Applicant Tracking software, signing software, Training software, and benefits software

• Other duties, as required

 

 

Job Requirements

 

• Minimum Five years of experience in human resources or a management role, preferably in a medium sized private sector, non-unionized company

• Post-secondary education in Human Resources or equivalent experience

• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation specific to Federally regulated industries

• Strong knowledge of the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canada Labour Code - Parts II and III (CLC), The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), The Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIAT), The Employment Equity Act, and other applicable federal legislation

• Strong conflict resolution skills

• Experience administering progressive discipline

• Experience managing Long Term Disability and return to work programs

• Experience with coaching and employee development

• Proven experience preparing and conducting post-implementation evaluations

• A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills

• CHRP or CHRL designation or in progress considered an asset

• Working knowledge and experience with the Workplace Equity Information Management System (WEIMS), ADP, DocuSign, Talentsorter, and HRdownloads considered an asset
