Job Responsibilities:

·      Directing the Production work force in the daily execution of the production schedule, ensuring the department meets all production orders at the right quality, time, and lowest cost

·      Supervising Shift Supervisors, Operations Supervisor, and Production Resource Planner roles

·      Following up on problems that cause production to vary from standard efficiency and quality

·      Overseeing production scheduling, using efficient use of resources

·      Promoting consistent application of plant and corporate policies and procedures across all shifts

·      Monitoring shift crewing levels and identifying and correcting labour variances

·      Ensuring accurate daily reporting of production data, generating trend reports and making information available to production team

·      Identifying inherent process characteristics that produce non-conforming product and takes steps to eliminate them, keeping quarantined inventory to a minimum

·      Being available on off hours for consultation with Production Supervisors and other staff and to provide assistance as required to minimize downtime

·      Working as a seamless team with Material Handling, Process and Maintenance departments to quickly resolve equipment, process, quality, and efficiency problems

·      Establishing and maintaining a well-motivated and enthusiastic work force with a good working environment

·      Overseeing the hiring, training, and development of all Production employees

·      Working with Human Resources to ensure disciplinary action is applied fairly and consistently when required in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures and the Labour Agreement

·      Working with Human Resources to deal effectively with Attendance Management issues

·      Ensuring the Production department is in compliance with the Loss Control Management Program

·      Ensuring safe work habits and conditions in all production areas

·      Investigating production problems and engineering solutions through equipment, methods, workforce, or procedural changes

·      Providing project management for production improvement projects

·      Applies principles of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and other tools to improve productivity and lower operating costs




·      Post secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience

·      Minimum of 5 years management experience in a 24/7 manufacturing facility

·      Proven leadership abilities in safety, quality, and productivity

·      Ability to understand appropriate priorities

·      Strong analytical skills

·      Ability to generate, maintain and respond to key performance indicators in order to move the process forward

·      Previous management experience in a unionized work environment

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·      Ability to work as a seamless team with all other areas of Operations

·      Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point


Working Environment:

·      Hantsport, Nova Scotia

·      Some overtime required when responsibilities warrant  

·      Must be available during off hours for consulting and intervening during emergencies

·      Flexible to travel on an occasional basis
