429A General Machinist Apprentice Opportunity

A well-established, successful manufacturing company in Ontario area, is looking to hire a General Machinist Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a great team atmosphere.

 

As a General Machinist Apprentice, your key responsibilities are:

 

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
  • Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • May set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
  • Study job orders or interpret blueprints to determine machining operations to be performed
  • Verify dimensions of parts machined using micrometers, calipers and other precision measuring instruments
  • Prepare etching and immerse metal parts or workpiece in etching solution to remove unwanted portions
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Practice excellent general housekeeping, including but not limited to, his/her work area, chip removal, floor areas, benches, storage areas to ensure a safe work environment.
  • May enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the tool path for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools.
  • Use and Knowledge of CAD Software (Mastercam)

 

Qualifications:

  • One to two years experience an asset
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Able to work in a team and to handle priorities under pressure
  • Strong understanding and conscious of safe work practices
  • Available to attend schooling and attain Journeymen certification within a specified time period
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
