Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, the Labourer will work with the team and crew, to perform concrete construction work and assist the Foreman and/or Lead Hand with other duties as required or assigned.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the assigned team/crew to complete tasks and fulfill project requirements
  • Help motivate the team or crew on the job site to perform work in an efficient manner
  • Assist in forming and pouring of concrete footings, walls, slabs, floors and stairs (commercial, residential and landscape)
  • Assemble and disassemble form work and place/tie rebar per drawings and scope
  • Assist with foundation and anchor bolt layout
  • Pour and finish concrete as required
  • Operate equipment if proper training/licensing has been obtained (i.e. skid steer, mini excavator etc.)
  • Build custom forms when required
  • Track and report materials/inventory taken from yard
  • Must be flexible and available to work overtime and Saturdays as required
  • Pre-trip inspections as required
  • Own transportation to Calibre yard
  • Participate in the training of employees
  • Comply with Calibre Concrete’s H&S Policy & OHSA, PPE requirements

Position Specifications (Qualifications)

Education / Knowledge / Experience

  • High School diploma or GED if applicable; post-secondary education is an asset
  • Experience in building construction is an asset
  • Experience operating construction equipment is an asset (i.e. skid steer, mini excavator etc.)
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods and equipment is an asset
  • Experience reading construction drawings is an asset
  • WHMIS certificate
  • Working at Heights training certificate
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safe work practices

Skills and Abilities

  • Mathematically inclined
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills; listening, oral, written and read
  • Good manual dexterity including ability to use small to mid-sized hand tools
  • Good judgement and self-motivated
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and own transportation are required as is the ability to drive a company truck and be covered by fleet insurance
  • Ability to read a map and deal with traffic

  • Work outside in all weather conditions; must be able to endure outdoor environment (extreme cold and heat)

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stretch, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, push, pull, reach, and grasp
  • Driving in all weather and traffic conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry 100 pounds frequently and on a daily basis
