The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is recruiting for a Landscape Management & Facilities Support staff to work on a 1-year contract (with possibility for renewal), to lead the annual planning, gardening and grounds projects and to support the Landscape Management plan. The Landscape Management & Facilities Support position ensures a high-quality grounds appearance and safe conditions for visitors and supports the Facilities team in the off season.
Primary responsibilities include the oversight and maintenance of garden beds, shrubs, flowers, trees and site amenities by incorporating a planned schedule for all activities: pruning trees, cut back to avoid overgrowth, removing dead trees. The Landscape Management & Facilities Support position leads appropriate removal of invasive species and ensures that the grass and surrounding landscape thrive with proper maintenance. The position plays an active and creative role in the development and maintenance of a cultural landscape. The tasks performed by summer student Groundskeepers falls under the purview of this position. In the winter, the Landscape Management and Facilities Support staff member works with the Maintenance team in snow removal and grounds maintenance, while supporting department setup needs for the public.
Qualified candidates will have studies in landscape, biology or related field, with at least three years’ experience in a groundskeeping role. Valid driver’s license, usage of lawn tools and safety training are required; supervisory experience is a strong asset. Knowledge of native Indigenous plants is desired, and priority will be given to Indigenous applicants.
