El Gaucho Portland is looking for a talented service professional for our full-time salaried Spirits Captain (AKA Bar Manager) position in downtown Portland. This position involves nightly floor management with a bar management focus.
With live Spanish guitar, tableside service and a dedication to an impeccable guest experience, the role of the El Gaucho Captain (manager) combines traditional restaurant management with the nightly ambiance and excitement of a bustling and sizzling celebration. We have served up memories in downtown Portland for 25 years and are looking for talented individuals to join in on our legacy.
An El Gaucho captain specializes in flambe, fun and flair. The primary function of the captain position is to ensure that service is positive, fluid and memorable for our guests and team. With each team member in their roles, the captain fills in any gaps (with precision and flourish!) while facilitating all aspects of a warm, inviting and extraordinary guest experience.

Previous management experience is required for this position and a background in fine dining is encouraged but not required- we are willing to train the right person to ensure a great fit.
Responsibilities (general): Nightly floor service, supervision of server sections, management of team members, handling of administrative duties and general operational oversight. Multitasking abilities and attention to detail are key attributes for success.
Responsibilities (bar management): Manage all aspects of bar program: liquor and beer ordering, invoicing and inventory. Cost of goods management, menuing, cocktail development, pricing, planning and execution of two spirits-related dinners annually and special holiday menus.
