Job Description: The GS-Operations starting salary $65K to $70K

The GS-OPR reports to the Production Manager  

The GS-OPR works closely with the GS-HR and Production Manager.  GS-OPR will support plant operations in the development, planning and execution of production schedules, lean strategies and metrics providing support to various levels throughout the organization.

The GS-OPR is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and lean manufacturing guidelines. The duties and responsibilities include participating in formulating and implementing policy in relation to Lean Manufacturing standards. 


Operation responsibilities

General duties and responsibilities will include

  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Maintain compliance with Company Handbook and work rules.
  • Ensure production processes are clearly defined, documented, and executed per SOP and ISO 9001 standards
  • This position will act as a key driver of change within the plant, supporting 
    management/cross functional decisions by communicating the plant-wide changes to employees and helping them to learn, understand, adjust, and grow with the business’s Lean transformation. 
  • Direct and coordinate work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and lean manufacturing.
  • Work closely with planning in capacity modeling, work order management, WIP movement and on time delivery
  • Supports capacity analysis and maintain a full understanding of capacity potential.
  • The GS is responsible for the production flow across all departments and is measured by the overall throughput of the facility.
  • The GS is responsible for optimizing and streamlining manufacturing processes through systems of continual improvement.
  • This position requires the ability to identify and analyze complex operational data from multiple disparate sources to synthesize actionable evidence of root cause or improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in the hiring of team members.
  • Develop Lean manufacturing strategy for all manufacturing and distribution to ensure all facility’s objectives are met in the areas. 
  • This position will provide leadership / mentoring / training and performance management to the production supervisors and to all levels of the operation
  • Support development of performance plans for direct reports.
  • Review performance plans for direct reports with emphasis on growth and continuous improvement.
  • Coach and train employees to develop an appropriate skills pool and succession planning.
  • Recommend changes in processes/staffing necessary to maintain capacity at required levels.
  • Participate in Quality/Process improvement teams. Implement team findings.
  • Monitor, develop and maintain equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Develop processes to improve flow and reduce wasted effort/time.


This position requires an individual that can facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and “ever changing” environment leveraging strong interpersonal skills.

Key to success in this position is the ability to identify and drive operational improvements at all levels utilizing a “hands on” approach to creating value and buy-in as the lead change facilitator for the plant’s Lean transformation.

The PM has a global view of the company, primarily from a business standpoint, a longer term of vision and has external responsibilities. The GS-HR and OPR the PS (Production Supervisor) is internally focused on the department they supervise; they typically have a shorter term of vision. The GS is a combination of the two. They are responsible to the PS in providing materials and resources and to the PM to provide confidence that the plans are being carried out properly.

 Manage Documentation:

  • BOM management
  • SOP management
  • Capacity Analysis
  • SPC and Cpk studies




  • Minimum 5-years of hands-on experience in production management for a manufacturing company with at least 3 years applying lean tools and training others.
  • Results based Leadership style skill set with strong impact and influencing skills.
    bachelor’s in engineering (ME, IE, other), or Operations Management preferred.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certified
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, MS Access, and MS Project a plus 

General Plant:

Maintain a clean and organized working atmosphere throughout the General Plant.

Maintain General Plant equipment PM.

Manage all safety initiatives
