Flux Lighting is a professional sales and service organization looking to fill the role of Technical Specialist and Field Support. Flux represents approximately 70 different manufacturers of lighting and lighting controls that are specified on the most interesting lighting and lighting controls projects in Ottawa, Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The keys to success for this position will be a great attitude, work ethic and relevant education.

This is an ideal position for candidates with a background as an electrician, electrical or mechanical engineering technician or technologist and proficient computer skills. Specialized training is required and will be provided by the company.

We have a hybrid working model where employees are able to split time working from home or in the office.  

We have a modern office close to the Queensway in a quiet area of Nepean with floor to ceiling windows on a professional business campus with lots of green space and access to showers and a fitness centre. The kitchen is stocked with fresh, locally roasted coffee and snacks and we typically bring in lunch once or twice a week for the office. Office workstations include state of the art Dell Latitude laptops, Dell Precision workstations and dual 27" Dell Ultrasharp monitors. We can provide equipment for the home office.

We have a great team that works hard but also enjoys taking time for social events, team lunches and visiting the completed projects we've worked on. Social events we currently have planned or have done in the last year include a 20th anniversary party on a private patio for clients, a Hope beach volleyball team in the corporate class, a private movie screening, Christmas party, our own summer Olympics, company golf tournament, an Ottawa Senators game in a Club Bell suite and an Ottawa Redblacks game in Otto's Club.

The key responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Managing technical projects from initial design to post-occupancy support.
  • Designing and quoting lighting and shade control systems.
  • Providing on-site support to electrical contractors and end-users for light fixture and lighting control system install and operation.
  • Providing commissioning, programming, and training services to end-users for lighting control systems.
  • Providing on-site troubleshooting for light fixtures and lighting control systems, panels and software.
  • Managing relationships with project stakeholders (architects, electrical engineers, electrical contractors, end-users etc.).
  • Creating submittal documents and commissioning reports.
  • Managing multiple projects at the same time while ensuring deadlines are not missed.
  • Creating a proper workflow and help setting priorities within the technical team.
  • Participating in educational opportunities to develop and maintain core competency in controls and lighting knowledge, including manufacturer trainings and webinars.
  • Assisting the project coordination team in project management.
  • Providing quality customer support by responding to client inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
  • Providing technical assistance to sales staff, project coordinators, and clients as required.

Bilingualism is considered an asset and the successful candidate must be willing to travel occasionally within Canada and the U.S. for work or training.
