About Our Organization:

ATAP, the Association of Tax & Accounting Professionals, is a collaborative and supportive Association of Tax and Accounting Professionals operating independently across Canada. We provide independent Tax, Accounting and other related financial professionals with the tools and support they need to grow successful practices. Our members are experienced and dedicated tax and accounting professionals, committed to continued professional development, and to maintaining the highest standards of services for all clients financial and business needs. The ATAP goal is simple – to provide support to our members by promoting professionalism, continuing education and greater recognition.

Job Overview:

The Executive Director is the senior staff member of the ATAP association and reports to the Board of the Directors. The Executive Director is accountable for leading the operational team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of ATAP’s programs and services in support of the vision, mission and business plan. The Executive Director will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in order to provide leadership and oversight to all ATAP programs and services. The Executive Director establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local, provincial and national representatives and industry stakeholders including government departments and officials.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Relationship Management

  • Act as the key professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s programs and activities, building and maintaining a positive working relationship with all board members.
  • Serve as an engaging and effective spokesperson across all forms of media and with external collaborators as needed.
  • Create and oversee the implementation of membership management strategies to support the goals of the association and the needs of its members

Strategic Planning:

  • Leads the development of a strategic plan that conveys the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals and objectives.
  • Ensure an inclusive business planning process and reach out to all internal and external stakeholders on a proactive basis
  • Tracks the results and objectives and keeps the Board apprised about these matters

 

Human Resources Management:

  • Oversee the development of a Human Resources Plan aligned to the strategic plan
  • Set the tone and direction for a healthy, positive, collaborative and values-based work culture
  • Ensure the organization has progressive and fair Human Resources policies and practices and is compliant with government legislation.
  • Provide supervision, direction and guidance to ATAP staff

Risk Management:

  • Incorporate risk management principles in all activities at ATAP and takes proactive measures to eliminate, reduce and minimize risk issues.

Financial Management:

  • Direct the annual budgeting process with the participation of the senior management staff and in consultation with the Board’s Treasurer/finance and administration committee
  • Provide guidance, support and direction to contracted accounting service providers including bookkeeping service providers, auditors, etc.

Education & Experience:

  • Graduate degree/education in ADMINISTRATION (e.g. MBA, CSAE) is preferred
  • Five or more years recent experience in a non-profit, membership-based organization is preferred, ten or more years is an asset.
  • Five or more years of leadership and management experience, demonstrating advancement in responsibility preferred, ten or more years is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Accounting & Taxation Industry is an asset

Key Competencies:

  • Experience in areas of board relationships, business operations, information technology, project/change management, financial management, data analytics, human resources, communication and relationship building are preferred.  
  • The candidate should have proven strategic thinking, leadership, and business acumen, together with experience in system-level thinking, consensus building and conflict resolution.
  • A demonstrated background of building high-performing multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple stakeholder relationships will be regarded highly.

Work Environment

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

  • 24-30 hours weekly - More hours may be required at busy times
  • Monday to Friday
  • ability to move to full time when the Association determines the need

Work Location: (Remote – preferred to be based in Ontario)
