Purpose of Job: 

The primary function of the Workforce Economic Development - Safety Instructor is to provide site specific safety training for the businesses and industries in the SouthernTech district.  A successful WED - Safety Instructor contributes to a strong economy in Southern Oklahoma through the delivery of safety related training programs designed to protect the human capital of businesses and reduces company costs associated with employee injury.

Education, Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Requirements:

Education and Experience:      

Preferred:

  1. Degree / Work Experience
    1. Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or related discipline. Job-related work experience and certifications can be considered in lieu of degree
    2. Five year’s job-related experience in business and industry
    3. Heavy Equipment, Industrial, or Manufacturing experience
    4. Curriculum development experience
    5. Teaching experience
  2. Safety credentials
    1. American Heart Association certified instructor credential for CPR, AED, First Aid
    2. OSHA 500 and 501 credentials

 Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Working knowledge of computerized office programs, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
  2. Familiarization on set up and usage of equipment needed to deliver training
  3. Working knowledge of Oklahoma School law, federal and state laws, and the SouthernTech education system.
  4. Function as an effective SouthernTech and WED team player.
  5. Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects with very specific time constraints.

 Physical & Mental Requirements:

 Physical Requirements:

  1. Sit for extended periods.
  2. Manipulate computer keyboard.
  3. Keen hearing: Ability to listen to others
  4. Vision: Close and distance vision required.
  5. Be able to communicate.
  6. Be able to properly and legally operate a school vehicle as required to travel on behalf of the district.
  7. Push, pull, and regularly lift up to 25 lbs. (occasionally up to 50 lbs.).
  8. Ability to bend and stoop.
  9. Motorcycle operation and/or logistics for motorcycle safety training, if assigned. (Must have proper “M” endorsement to operate motorcycles)

 Mental Requirements:

  1. Ability to understand and act on both written and spoken directions and instructions.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and the Board of Education.
  4. Ability to write documents and effectively present information.
  5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  6. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  7. Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
  8. Ability to implement, facilitate, and complete multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.
