Job Title:     Finance Officer

Job Type:                      Permanent Full Time (PFT)

Schedule:                      1.0 FTE (i.e. 40hrs/week).

Contract Start Date:      June 23, 2025.

Work Location:             Inverary Manor, 72 Maple St., Inverness, NS

Number of Positions:     2 (two).

 

Each Finance Officer will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will play a vital role in supporting the Finance Department of the County of Inverness Municipal Housing Corporation (CIMHC). The Finance Officer will ensure the efficient and accurate processing and recording of Payroll, Accounts Payable, portions of Accounts Receivable, and assist in fiscal period ends. Each of the two Finance Officers will be assigned a separate Long-Term Care Home which is under the management of the CIMHC.

 

  • Rate: $24.04/Hr - $50,000/Year
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation annually,
  • Pension: Nova Scotia Health Employees Pension Plan – an employee and employer funded defined benefit plan.

  • Sick Leave: accrues at 1.5 days per month worked.

 

 

About the position, for each Finance Officer:

  • Payroll: Prepare, verify and process payroll on a bi-weekly basis for approximately 120 employees using our electronic timecard and scheduling software (Staff Schedule Care) and our 3rd party payroll service provider (ADP Work Force Now). Payroll duties include paying, recording, and filing monthly remittances (i.e. monthly Union dues and other payroll deduction accumulators such as Pension plan, Group insurance, garnishments as well as bi-monthly WCB remittances).  And any other payroll tasks as needed.
  • Accounts Payable: Review, code, and record in SAGE accounting software vendor invoices. Prepare, print, record, mail, and file SAGE system cheques. Prepare manual cheques (as needed), record, mail, and file manual cheques. Perform Account Payable reconciliations and maintain vendor files current.
  • Accounts Receivables: using SAGE accounting, prepare client invoices (as needed), client receipts, and bank deposits, and perform Account Receivable reconciliations and maintain client files current.
  • Month & Year End: Assist and help with the organization’s monthly and yearly fiscal period end closures. May include but not limited to: General Ledger account reconciliations, monthly journal entries.
  • Other: perform other administrative and clerical duties, including maintaining filing and record keeping systems and assisting with other general office duties as required.

 

About You:

  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting is preferred.
  • Certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is a definite asset.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar position preferably including experience in Payroll, Full Accounting Cycle, including processing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Proficient in using computerized accounting software (SAGE), ADP payroll software, and MS office 365.
  • Proven ability to multitask with a superior level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Reliable attendance, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with vendors/suppliers, and colleagues in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute positively to the team and workplace goals.
  • A high level of integrity and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

County of Inverness Municipal Housing Corporation (CIMHC) is a Not-for-Profit Corporation under the authority of the Municipality of the County of Inverness. The Corporation is comprised of four (4) separate entities: two (2) Long Term Care Homes; Inverary Manor, (located in Inverness, NS) and Foyer Père Fiset (located in Chéticamp, NS) and two (2) Small Option Homes; Koster Huis (Mabou, NS) and Port Hood Small Options (Port Hood, NS). 

 

Inverary Manor is a modern 71-bed long-term care facility located along Cape Breton’s musical coast, in the town of Inverness, Nova Scotia. This state-of-the-art facility is divided into six households, each with common living areas and kitchens, as well as private rooms and bathrooms. The Manor is linked to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. This Home has cozy communal spaces, airy, attractive interior, and warm supportive staff.

 

Foyer Père Fiset is currently a 61-bed long-term care facility with an additional 10 RBC beds, all linked to Sacred Heart Community Health Centre. Located along Cape Breton’s western coast on the world-famous Cabot Trail in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, the Foyer offers excellent care to their residents including recreational, spiritual and emotional care.  The Foyer celebrated the start of construction on a state-of-the-art new facility, with a sod turning ceremony on August 30, 2024. Construction has begun, and the new home is expected to welcome residents, staff, and visitors in 2027.
