Welcome To Urban Garden - Applying For The Junior Landscape Designer Position

Overview:

Applicants should have 1-3 years of experience in a professional landscape design/architectural office with the goal of securing a full-time position. The Junior Landscape Designer will work on a wide range of commercial and residential landscape design projects and consult with Project Managers to ensure each design is executed according to plan. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to the design process from inception to project completion. The Junior Landscape Designer will report directly to the Senior Landscape Designer and collaborate with other team members in the office.

 

Responsibilities:   

  • Assist with processing and organizing incoming design leads (i.e., initial site meetings, design proposal preparation and client communication).
  • Assist with collecting site measurements, inventory, and analysis of existing site conditions (both with Senior Landscape Designer or independently as required).
  • Prepare conceptual designs, detailed designs, and construction documentation.
  • Modify and update drawings as necessary under the supervision of Senior Landscape Designer.
  • Prepare technical/CAD drawings including: base plans, layout plans, planting plans, grading plans and various landscape construction details.
  • Participate in client communications via email, phone calls and in person meetings.
  • Participate/lead design presentations for assigned projects.
  • Assist with the ordering of plants and other landscape materials including: contacting wholesalers for pricing, product sourcing, calculating material take-offs and requesting product samples/deliveries.
  • Coordinate and consult with Project Managers to make sure proposed design is executed according to plan.
  • Conduct frequent site visits to check on quality control throughout the duration of a project.
  • Assist with the development and modification of design templates and computer libraries.
  • Follow schedules and project deadlines, as directed by Senior Landscape Designer.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Landscape Architecture or similar certification (i.e., Architectural Technician Certification, Horticultural Technician Certification).
  • Strong design skills, including proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency in computer file organization, management and MS Office.
  • Ability to produce technical working drawings (grading, layout plans, planting plans and landscape construction details).
  • High level graphic communication skills (hand/3D computer renderings) for presentations.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects at various stages of development.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload to meet assigned project deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of Southern Ontario plant material, landscape design standards and industry best practices.
  • Valid G Drivers Licence & Clean Drivers Abstract: With the ability to drive larger vehicles in the city and GTA area.
