Landscape Technician / Groundskeeper

 

The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Landscape Technician/Groundskeeper, in the Community & Recreation Services Department.

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Parks & Horticulture, the Landscape Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to the maintenance and upkeep of all municipal parks and open spaces with an emphasis on the maintenance of sports turf, landscaped areas, municipal gardens and municipal trees.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a university degree or college diploma in Horticulture or equivalent field along with a minimum of five (5) years in the landscape or equivalent field.  The successful candidate must have a valid Ministry of the Environment Pesticide Exterminator License – Landscape Exterminator.  Candidates must have a valid “D” driver’s license with preference given to the candidate with “Z” endorsement.  The successful candidate must have previous experience driving a truck with attached trailer, operate full range of riding lawn mowers and operate skid-steers, tractors and full range of landscape related implements such as augers, land levellers, top-dressers, over-seeders, and stump grinders.  The preferred candidate will have the ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision and have a genuine ability to work in a team environment.  In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in the maintenance of sports fields, passive areas, playground areas and grounds.  Previous knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, and associated regulations will be considered assets.

 

The successful candidates must be available to work forty (40) hours each week and the regular hours of work are between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Salary

The Town offers an hourly rate of $31.23 (2024), in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 702.1.  This position is subject to a probationary period of sixty (60) days of work.
