School Overview:

Rooted School Las Vegas exists to accelerate upward mobility for underserved youth in Las Vegas, NV. The fourth in a national network of high-achieving schools, RSLV will bring an innovative education model to Clark County with the support of a national backbone organization, Rooted School Foundation.

Rooted’s goal is that all RSLV students graduate from high school with a job offer in one hand and a college acceptance letter in the other. Rooted’s student-centered model provides scholars with self-directed learning pathways, project-based learning, and industry-based internships and credentials to help them achieve academic success and prepare for a high-paying career.

Opening its doors in 2024, RSLV will serve 360 students annually when all grades (9-12) are filled. 66% of students are projected to be from low-Income families, 43% are projected to be Latinx students, and the school anticipates serving students receiving ELL services (14%).

Overview of the Role:

In your role, you will be a lead executor of providing differentiated supports to our students with exceptional learning and behavioral needs.

As the founding Special Educator of Rooted School Las Vegas,  you will work in step with our instructional team to fulfill our school-wide vision for grades 9-10 and respond urgently and effectively to student needs to bring that vision to reality.

Above all, you will help us determine how we will fulfill the Rooted Promise. This might not work. It might not be fun. I hope you’ll do it anyway.

Areas of Responsibility Include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Embodying, advocating, and operationalizing the mission, vision, and direction of the school
  • Achieving dramatic and consistent improvement in the academic performance of students with exceptionalities
  • Managing the special education department, overseeing the performance of special education teachers and staff
  • Ensuring that all students with IEPs are case managed and appropriate services are provided
  • Ensuring that the school complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations governing students with exceptionalities
  • Conferring with students’ families, school leadership, testing specialists, and other professionals to develop IEPs designed to promote students’ academic, physical, and social development
  • Developing flexible groups for students within individual classes with the assistance of teachers
  • Supporting teachers with in-classroom instruction to meet the needs of all students 
  • Coordinating School Building Level Committees and review of student IEPs; offering detailed recommendations on successful techniques for meeting accommodations
  • Supporting and leading professional development and growth of faculty, especially with regard to special education
  • Participating in daily, weekly, and quarterly meetings about student achievement
  • Using leadership feedback and goal-setting to improve daily practice
  • Participating in the life of the school, including student activities and events
  • Taking on other tasks, as needed

Compensation:

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with a commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A completed post-baccalaureate secondary teacher certification and/or a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a Mathematics discipline
  • Valid Nevada State Special Education Teaching Certificate, or can obtain a Nevada State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
  • Knowledge of academic coursework to be taught and teaching methods for the 21st-century classroom
  • Experience in developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum adaptation, the use of higher-level thinking skills, knowledge of differing learning styles and alternative assessment techniques
  • Experience with and analyses of state, local, and teacher-developed assessments
  • Bilingual preferred
