Job Summary:

As a founding specialist teacher of the Do & Be Arts Academy of Excellence (DBAE), you will play a pivotal role in establishing our innovative charter school and shaping its educational model. This position offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team dedicated to providing quality performing arts and arts-integrated education to K-8th grade students in North Las Vegas. You are responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive K-8 theatre (arts) curriculum, in line with our school's vision and philosophy. Your job as an arts teacherl is to nurture our students' creativity, collaboration skills, and confidence, using theatre as a powerful medium of expression and learning.


Recommended Qualifications:  DBAE is a founding school committed to a strong launch to our programming therefore the following qualifications are highly recommended for serious consideration of this role


  • A bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Valid Nevada teaching license or the ability to obtain one before the start of employment.
  • Certification or endorsement in Theatre Arts (multiple arts endorsements welcome)
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in a theatre arts or arts-integrated setting
  • Experience in a startup or charter school environment is a plus
  •  Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and historically under-represented groups.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
  • Familiarity with classroom management restorative justice practices and an entrepreneurial mindset


Teacher Competencies:

Teaching Expertise: Demonstrates a deep understanding of K-8th grade theatre arts (and/or visual and performing arts) curriculum, pedagogy, and instructional strategies. Utilizes arts-integrated teaching methods to engage students and foster creativity in the classroom.

Classroom Management: Establishes and maintains a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation. Implements effective restorative behavior management strategies and supports the social-emotional development of students.

Differentiated Instruction: Adapts instructional approaches to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with disabilities, English language learners, and historically under-represented groups. Implements strategies to address individual learning styles and challenges.

Collaboration: Works collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and achievement. Participates actively in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

Communication: Demonstrates the ability to engage and inspire through verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Provides timely feedback on student progress and maintains open lines of communication.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Embraces change, demonstrates resilience, and adapts teaching strategies to meet evolving needs and challenges. Shows a willingness to take risks and try new approaches in the classroom. Demonstrates the ability to adapt and innovate in a startup environment, and able to balance multiple responsibilities and manage time effectively .

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to embrace challenges, take calculated risks, and drive change in a start-up environment.

Reflective Practice: Engages in continuous professional growth and self-reflection. Seeks feedback, evaluates instructional practices, and strives for ongoing improvement. Models a growth mindset for students. Seeks opportunities for professional development to continuously enhance personal creativity and innovative teaching practice

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Planning and Instruction: Design and deliver a comprehensive theatre arts curriculum that aligns with our school's vision, philosophy, and Nevada standards (teacher may choose to incorporate other arts standards in daily lessons). Incorporate DEI principles into teaching practices and classroom interactions. Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all students and monitors their progress. Encourage students to apply their creative skills and artistic perspectives when approaching assignments, projects, and performances. Design and implement instructional strategies that promote originality, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Provide opportunities for students to explore and experiment with diverse art forms, encouraging their self-expression and creativity.
  2. Promote Innovative Teaching Pedagogies: Stay abreast of current research and best practices in theatre arts (and other art forms), restorative justice, growth mindset, and innovative teaching methodologies. Experiment with new approaches and technologies to enhance instructional delivery and student learning experiences. 
  3. Classroom Environment: Create a classroom atmosphere that is welcoming, safe, and inclusive classroom environment and encourages imagination, curiosity, collaboration, creative expression, and mutual respect. Establish clear expectations and routines to promote a positive space. Utilize restorative justice approaches for classroom behavior management and conflict resolution
  4. Nurture Students' Creative Potential: Recognize and celebrate students' unique talents, interests, and creative abilities. Provide guidance and support to help students develop their creative skills and pursue artistic endeavors. Encourage students to take risks, think outside the box, and embrace a growth mindset when approaching creative challenges.
  5. Assessment and Evaluation: Designs and administers formative and summative assessments to measure student learning, creative growth,  and artistic abilities. Analyzes assessment/performance data to inform instructional decisions and provides honest constructive feedback to students to support their growth, further develop their artistic skills,  and expand their creative potential.
  6. Parent and Community Engagement: Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with parents and guardians, keeping them informed about their child's progress and school activities. Collaborates with community organizations and stakeholders to enhance student learning opportunities.
  7. Promote Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Connections: Collaborate with other teachers to design performances, projects and activities that integrate all the arts. Foster partnerships with local artists, arts organizations, and community resources to enhance students' exposure to diverse artistic experiences. Encourage students to collaborate with peers, sharing and combining their creative talents and perspectives. Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate theatre arts into other academic subjects and incorporate core subjects in theatre arts classes. Collaborate weekly with colleagues to share innovative ideas, strategies, and resources, fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement.
  8. Professional Development: Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues. Actively participates in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the school's continuous improvement efforts. Stay up-to-date on best practices in arts, literacy, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Engage in self-reflection and seek opportunities for professional development to continuously enhance personal creativity and innovative teaching practices.
  9. Founding Teacher Responsibilities: As the founding teacher, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of school policies, procedures, and curriculum frameworks. You will collaborate closely with the school leadership team to establish a strong foundation for the school's success. And actively participate in school events and meetings, fostering a strong school community
