Primary Responsibility:

The Massage Therapy Clinic Supervisor provides instruction, guidance and mentoring to students as they move from the textbook to the hands-on practical in a clinic setting. 

The Massage Therapy Clinic Supervisor will support the vision, mission, and values of Eastern College while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of respect, integrity, dedication and readiness, embracing diversity and fostering inclusion.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Advise students on treatment safety pre-treatment to ensure safe treatment of all clients.
  • Clinical rounds – checking in on every student when possible, asking questions pertaining to client’s assessment, treatment plan & long-term care.
  • Provide consultation to students while they are performing massages as required and/or upon request.
  • Provide new students with a clinic manual and a course syllabus.
  • Conduct an orientation and walk-through of clinic policies and procedures prior to the student’s first client.
  • Review booking & record keeping software with student prior to first client.
  • Delegate tasks to “clinic lead” student and book exchanges when no clients are available.
  • Complete student evaluations as per clinic externship manual.
  • Arrange schedules to reflect a fair distribution of clients for every student.
  • Arrange and attend outreach events.
  • Complete required outreach documents as per externship manual.
  • Act as first point of contact for student regarding absences/changes to schedule.
  • Arrange make-up clinic shifts with absent students.
  • Create/maintain student schedules and assign student numbers to protect confidentially with online booking of clients.
  • Oversee the Jane software system and ensure accurate shift hours are entered for each student.
  • Compile clinic & outreach hours for clinical hours sign off sheet and submit to Campus Director.
  • Act as first point of contact for student clinic inquiries, and in-house clinic promotions.
  • Liaise with massage therapy faculty regarding policies, curriculum & consistencies.
  • Attend monthly faculty calls, campus staff meetings and graduation ceremonies.
  • Maintain communication with other clinic supervisors about each shift.
  • Review client Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan (SOAP) notes post treatment and sign off on them.

Qualifications:

  • Registered as a Massage Therapist in Good Standing with the provincial regulatory body Massage Therapists’ Associate of Nova Scotia (MTANS).
  • Massage Therapy diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical work experience as a Registered Massage Therapist.
  • Adult education and teaching experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and use of the Internet.
  • Understanding of Adult Learning Principles is preferred.
  • Reliable vehicle. Occasional travel required.
