Primarily remote/work from home with occasional in-person meetings.
Employment Engagement Specialist must be able to travel to various communities across Ontario, during all weather conditions, and be a commutable distance to the Etobicoke head office
Must have Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Start date: October 15, 2024
End date: March 31st, 2025 with potential for permanent employment

We are looking for a Contract Employment Engagement Specialist to help support our driven, focused and expanding team. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between employers and participants and enhance community connections through networking and promoting our programs.
The Employment Engagement Specialist is responsible for marketing the program to prospective employers and the public, assessing the labour market, locating employment opportunities for participants of our Skilled Trades Workforce Development programs, and follow up with employers and participants after events.
The ideal candidate will also have experience with career development, coaching on essential employability skills, facilitation of public and online events, and be an energetic and organized individual with solid written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a knack for socializing and networking.
This position reports to our Director of Workforce Development, and works collaboratively with internal departments, employers, event participants, committees, and associations, that increase our portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Employer outreach to new or existing employers
- Outreach to new or existing participants of our Workforce Development Program
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with ministry contacts, community groups, partners, associations, employment agencies and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the program and to expand referral networks and enhance employer engagement
- Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative strategies to enhance the impact of our mentoring and employer engagement initiatives Identify and cultivate relationships with other non-profit organizations, employer partners and community partners that can help us expand the reach and impact of our trades programs
- Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain positive relationships with partners, including regular communication, collaboration on joint projects, and participation in partner events and activities
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date records/files while managing reporting expectations to submit accurate and timely reports to track activities
- Attend Bootcamps and co-facilitate Essential Employability Skills workshops
- Participate in other activities that directly support positive client outcomes (such as, but not limited to job fairs, webinars, community events, etc.)
- Attend, participate and collaborate in internal and external meetings both in-person and virtually when required
- Present information clearly and concisely, even in high-pressure situations
- Navigate formal and informal communication channels with finesse
Qualifications:
Must haves:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma and relevant career development practitioner, human resources, and/or sales/marketing training
- 2-3 years of experience in managing business relationships, training and development, public speaking, recruitment, employer liaison, or similar role
- Strong facilitation and employment coaching skills
- Proven ability to develop goals and action plans in collaboration with program participants
- Exceptional verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Abilities to cultivate relationships with local employers, associations, agencies etc.
- Competent in making routine decisions and working with minimal guidance
- Adjust your communication style based on the context and the people you interact with
- Navigate both formal and non-formal situations with ease
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and navigate complex project environments
- Candidate should be able to lift, carry, and manage various equipment and supplies
Nice to Haves:
- Knowledge of the Skilled Trades Industry and the Ontario Apprenticeship pathway
- Experience working with adult education, employment and training sectors
- Knowledge of potential employment trends / developments in the Construction, Industrial, Motive-Power
- Familiarity with the workings of a not-for-profit organization
