We have an opportunity available at our Hantsport, NS location for a Plant Manager, reporting to the VP of Operations East. Our plant is at the heart of our operations, and we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Plant Manager to lead our team and optimize our manufacturing processes.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (But are not Limited to):

 

  • Direct Production Operations: Lead and direct the production of all products through department managers, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
  • Safety Management: Ensure safe working conditions and procedures are followed, encouraging a positive attitude towards safety across all levels of the organization.
  • Facility Expansion & Modernization: Oversee the expansion and modernization of the facility to meet growing business demands.
  • Problem Resolution: Address production issues that cause variation from standard, ensuring issues are swiftly identified and resolved.
  • Production Scheduling: Oversee and optimize production scheduling to ensure efficient resource utilization and on-time delivery.
  • Cost Control: Manage production costs by monitoring variable and fixed cost variances, and report regularly on cost performance.
  • Budget & Standards Preparation: Prepare production budgets and set production standards to meet organizational goals.
  • Material Procurement & Inventory: Oversee the purchase of production and packaging materials, manage inventory levels, and ensure proper storage of materials.
  • Warehousing & Shipment: Supervise the warehousing and shipment of finished goods, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of materials and energy usage, products produced, wages, expenses, and other relevant data.
  • Employee Management: Establish and enforce plant rules, ensuring fair discipline when required, and work to maintain a motivated and enthusiastic workforce.
  • Staffing: Oversee the hiring, training, development, and dismissal of plant staff, fostering a high-performance work culture.
  • Security & Emergency Procedures: Ensure plant security measures and fire and emergency procedures are in place and followed.
  • Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment, ensuring they remain in good working condition.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead and support continuous improvement (CI) initiatives, driving operational efficiency and quality enhancements.
  • Communication: Communicate across all levels of organization effectively, conduct shift crew meetings and presenting information to the employees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business).
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in a lean, high speed pulp processing and high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience in managing large teams and driving performance.
  • Strong employee relations skills and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Self-starter with a strong determination to succeed and a track record of achieving results.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ERP systems.

Experience:

  • Proven experience developing and implementing successful KPI's.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven track record in health & safety initiatives, implementing CMMS, as well as quality control with GFSI/BRC experience.
  • Strong coaching and team building skills alongside cost saving project experience.
  • Strong experience in driving accountability and improving plant performance and profitability.

 

 WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

  • Located in Hantsport in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, only 55 minutes from Halifax.
  • Required to work off cycle hours and varying amounts of overtime.
  • Available on a 24/7 basis for intervening during emergencies.
  • Flexible to travel on an occasional basis.
