Job Summary:

Did you like electrical but cannot see yourself working behind a desk for the rest of your career?  We are seeking graduates of Electrical Technology or Technician programs to join our team. The ideal candidate will specialize in installing, maintaining, and repairing elevators from an electrical and mechanical focus. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical circuits, control systems, and safety protocols to ensure the reliable and safe operation of elevator systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair the electrical parts of elevator systems, including motors, switches, control systems, and wiring. Ensure that all installations and repairs meet the current safety and code requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical faults in elevator systems efficiently. Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and apply the correct solutions to electrical failures, malfunctions, and system breakdowns.
  • Testing: Perform routine tests and inspections according to industry standards and regulations. Ensure that electrical components and systems are operating efficiently and safely.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all work complies with national and provincial elevator and electrical codes and standards. Stay updated with the latest codes and advancements in elevator technology.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance schedules, repairs, and replacements of elevator components. Prepare reports and documentation as required for safety audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other elevator mechanics, engineers, and technicians. Communicate effectively with team members, management, and clients to provide updates on work progress and completion.

Educational and Professional Requirements:

  • A post-secondary education in an electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanic program.

Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical circuits, control systems, and motor control and distribution as related to elevator systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with electrical diagnostic tools and software.
  • A strong commitment to safety and knowledge of safety protocols and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with clients, team members, and other professionals.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Apprenticeship and Certification:

Successful candidates with sufficient qualifications will be registered with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) as an Elevating Devices Mechanic – Trainee (EDM-T). This is a four-year apprenticeship program leading to a secure and well-paying career. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and passing the TSSA examination, candidates will be certified as Elevating Devices Mechanics, allowing them to work independently on elevator systems throughout Ontario.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work at heights and lift heavy objects.
  • Availability to work in various conditions, including outdoors, in buildings under construction, and in completed structures.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Availability for emergency call-outs, overtime, and weekend work as needed.
  • Willingness to continue education and training in elevator technologies and electrical systems.
