Human Resources Manager

We are currently seeking a skilled Human Resources Manager to oversee HR functions, with a focus on managing union relations and ensuring the smooth operation of staffing, attendance, employee relations, and more.


The Human Resources Manager will manage a wide variety of HR functions, with a particular emphasis on recruitment, labor relations, and compliance with the Collective Agreement. This individual will be responsible for advising management and staff, resolving workplace disputes, and implementing effective HR strategies to foster a productive work environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage the full recruitment process for Hourly and Salaried Operations employees, ensuring adherence to company procedures and policies.
  • Maintain open communication with operations departments regarding staffing needs, promotions, and job changes.
  • Prepare and post job openings, and apply rewards as per the Collective Agreement.
  • Coordinate temporary staffing requirements with external agencies.
  • Act as an advisor to Supervisors and Managers on the interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement.
  • Investigate and recommend action for potential disciplinary issues, preparing documentation and necessary letters.
  • Conduct grievance investigations, prepare materials for grievance meetings, and provide necessary correspondence.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and management to prepare for arbitration cases.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Union officers regarding grievances, discipline, policy changes, and general information.
  • Organize and lead Company/Union meetings.
  • Mediate workplace disputes and offer resolutions to maintain a harmonious environment.
  • Prepare materials for labor negotiations and actively participate in management negotiations.
  • Oversee the administration of the Employee Attendance Management Program.
  • Oversee the Disability Case Management program.
  • Manage the administration of the Hantsport group insurance and pension plans.
  • Coordinate employee events and awards programs to enhance employee engagement and morale.
  • Continuously seek improvements within the Human Resources Department in Hantsport.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with unionized employees.
  • Strong leadership abilities in managing employee relations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nova Scotia labor and employment law.
  • Experience in implementing change management initiatives and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency when required.
  • Skilled in drafting clear and professional employer communications.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with management, hourly employees, and external agencies.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team with Operations and other HR/Health and Safety professionals.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

 

Working Environment:

 

  • Located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, only 60 minutes from Halifax.
  • Reporting directly to the Director, Human Resources.
  • This is an on-site position.
