Welcome To Southern Tech - Applying For The Career/Technical Education Instructor - Anatomy and Physiology Position

Purpose of Job:           

Responsible for the administration, coordination, supervision, and implementation of any full-time program at Southern Tech while maintaining compliance with State of Oklahoma Career and Technical Education requirements and Southern Tech Board Policy.

 

Major Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Supports and promotes the Southern Tech adopted quality initiatives including the Baldrige criteria, Oklahoma Quality Award Foundation criteria, Tech Centers That Work, and Lean Office.
2. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continuous improvements in services to customers.
3. Supports and assists in the development and execution of the Southern Tech strategic plan.
4. Assigns appropriate instructional areas and formally evaluates instruction of the course material, in cooperation with the Director.
5. Responsible for reports and student records required by the State Department of Career and Technical Education. Provide testing and process required paper work for certificates available through the program.
6. Coordinates all program meetings, testing sessions, and student meetings and activities.
7. Develops and oversees program budgets.
8. Selects, coordinates schedule, and monitor sites for on the job training experiences, clinicals, internships, or live work projects to enhance curriculum, if applicable.
9. Establish student dress code and establish a safe environment by ensuring students understand the proper safety procedures in the related trade.
10. Monitor and update inventory and equipment reporting any discrepancies to keep inventory current.
11. Play a leading role in Job Placement for graduates, and determine their employment status.
12. Coordinate and participate in program activities for Southern Tech including ODCTE summer conference.
13. Determines and recommends calendar for assigned program(s), assuring required number of days/hours of instruction in classroom and job training experiences.
14. Supervises student counseling, discipline, referrals, progress reports, and handbook rules and regulations.
15. Provide students the opportunity to learn and practice techniques in leadership and job-related skills.
16. Update technical skill levels as necessary to update curriculum and to deliver current, marketable training to students.
17. Maintain accurate attendance records in cooperation with the school registrar and evaluate student performance and assign letter grades.
18. Organize and supervise field trips that enhance student’s job awareness and broaden their knowledge of the field of study.
19. Design group learning projects that develop skills in teamwork and problem resolution.
20. Maintain current articulation agreements with cooperation colleges/universities and work closely with sending schools in the development and implementation of individual education plans for students with special needs.
21. Instruct and assist students in operating computers utilizing a variety of educational software applications and technology.

 

Other:

1. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities required, as directed by the Superintendent and Director.
2. Cooperate with the Director to align curriculum.
3. Cooperate with other personnel to ensure a positive learning environment.

Education, Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Requirements:

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor of Science degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
2. Oklahoma State Department of Education Standard Teaching Certification in Biological Science required.
3. Must have 3 or more years of experience in field of instruction within the last 5 years.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Working knowledge of computerized office programs to include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, Oklahoma School Law, federal and state laws, and the Southern Tech education system.
2. Function as an effective Southern Tech team player.
3. Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
4. Ability to implement, facilitates, and completes multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.

 

Physical & Mental Requirements:

 

Physical Requirements:

1. Sit for extended periods, stand and walk as required in classrooms.
2. Manipulate computer keyboard.
3. Keen hearing: (ability to listen to others)
4. Vision: Close and distance vision required.
5. Be able to communicate.
6. Be able to properly and legally operate a school vehicle as required to travel on behalf of the district.
7. Regularly lifts up to 25 lbs.
8. Ability to bend and stoop.

1. Ability to read directions, instructions, both written, and spoken.
2. Ability to communicate effectively.
3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and the Board of Education.

Work Environment:

Primarily an office/clinical/lab/shop environment; walking and working with students and staff.  Full-time Program Instructors may work near mechanical equipment on and near moving mechanical equipment, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.  Occasionally working around loud noises associated with maintenance machinery, equipment.
