Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (may vary with project demands). Minimum 30 and up to 42.5 hours per week.
Wage: $36.00 per hour (incremental wage increases)

Job Summary
The Apprentice Electrician assists licensed journey person electricians with the installation, repair, and maintenance of interior and exterior electrical systems in residential, commercial, and municipal construction environments. This role is structured to support the completion of the Construction and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship program and Red Seal certification.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the installation of new electrical systems, including wiring, conduit, fixtures, switches, and service panels.
- Assist in the layout and connection of distribution equipment for street lighting, utility pedestals, and traffic signal systems - lays out, assembles, installs, repairs, maintains, connects and/or tests electrical systems
- Pull wire through conduits and underground ducts, support trenching, backfilling, and infrastructure setup.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams under the supervision of a licensed electrician - plans installations from blueprints, sketches and specifications, and supports installations of all electrical and electronic devices.
- Test electrical systems using basic diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters), reporting results to the supervising electrician. Tests electrical and electronic equipment to ensure that they are functioning properly.
- Splices and terminates electrical conductors.
- Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles and installs conduits and other electrical conductor raceways.
- Systematically diagnoses faults in electrical and electronic components, as required
- Operate hand tools and power tools while adhering to all safety regulations.
- Ensure job sites are organized, and materials are stocked; help maintain tools and equipment.
- Follow site safety protocols including use of PPE and participation in daily safety briefings.
- Record job activities and hours accurately to support apprenticeship progress tracking in Apprenticeship Training Standard Logbook.
- Assist with temporary power system installation and removal on construction projects.
- Attend in-school theoretical training as required by Skilled Trades Ontario and report on progress to management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be officially registered (or in the process of registering) as an apprentice electrician in Ontario under the Construction and Maintenance Electrician trade.
- Secondary school diploma required.
- Demonstrated experience working on active electrical or utility job sites under supervision.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and general electrical construction practices.
- Physically capable of working outdoors in all weather and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Valid DZ driver’s license.
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, and First Aid certifications.
- Must have a clear understanding of electrical safety procedures and worksite conduct.
Position Overview
T.J. Clarke Utilities Ltd. is a utility and electrical contractor specializing in municipal, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Apprentice Electricians at our company work under the direct supervision of licensed journey persons and gain hands-on experience in real-world construction settings. This position is designed to complement formal in-class training and advance the apprentice toward Red Seal certification. The role includes exposure to interior wiring, utility trenching, street lighting, traffic signals, and other electrical systems typically installed in urban infrastructure projects.
