Purpose of Job:

The primary function of the Workforce Economic Development – Health Instructor is to provide specific health education and training for individuals, business, and industries within the Southern Tech district. A successful Health Instructor contributes to a strong economy in Southern Oklahoma through the delivery of health-related training programs that directly increase the number of quality nursing and allied healthcare workers within the district.

Major Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Supports and promotes the SouthernTech adopted quality initiatives including the Baldrige criteria, Oklahoma Quality Award Foundation criteria, Tech Centers That Work, and Lean Office.
  2. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continuous improvements in services to customers.
  3. Supports and assists in the development and execution of the SouthernTech strategic plan.
  4. Works within a team framework to maintain compliance with accreditation and certification requirements, develop customized curriculum and training schedules that meet the needs and approval of the individuals and businesses being served.
  5. Works in tandem with SouthernTech WED Coordinators to ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and quality of programs delivered.
  6. Ability and willingness to learn and effectively utilize SouthernTech’s software systems to include, but not limited to the student management, student learning, time clock, leave, and accounting systems.
  7. Ability to maintain organized work schedule by utilizing available shared software.
  1. Represents SouthernTech in a manner consistent with its values and helps to create and cultivate partnerships between SouthernTech and organizations within the district.
  2. Maintains and grows competence by seeking out professional development opportunities and remains current with accreditations, certifications, industry trends, laws, and issues.
  3. Provide timely, specific information related to all aspects of training programs and services to SouthernTech partners.
  4. Develop customized curriculum to accommodate business and industry needs as needed.
  5. Collect, maintain, and deliver confidential training rosters, enrollment forms, and other documentation as directed in a timely manner.
  6. Presentation of various training programs to district organizations.
  7. Recruitment of business into activities offered by the WED department.
  8. Serve on various SouthernTech and community committees.
  9. Be willing to accept flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends.

 

Other:

  1. Perform other duties, assume responsibilities, and exercise other authority as may be required or directed upon by law or by the Assistant Superintendent or the District Superintendent of SouthernTech.

 

Education and Experience:

Preferred:

  1. Degree / Work Experience
    1. Associate degree or higher in Nursing
    2. Two year’s job-related experience in business and industry
    3. Curriculum development experience
    4. Teaching experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Working knowledge of computerized office programs, e., Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
  2. Familiarization on set up and usage of equipment needed to deliver training
  3. Working knowledge of Oklahoma School law, federal and state laws, and the SouthernTech education system.
  4. Function as an effective SouthernTech and WED team player.
  5. Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects with very specific time constraints.

  7. Push, pull, and regularly lift up to 25 (occasionally up to 50 lbs.).
  8. Ability to bend and stoop
  9. Motorcycle operation and/or logistics for motorcycle safety training, if (Must have proper “M” endorsement to operate motorcycles)

  1. Ability to understand and act on both written and spoken directions and instructions.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and the Board of Education.
  4. Ability to write documents and effectively present information.
  5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  6. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  7. Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
  8. Ability to implement, facilitate, and complete multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.

 

Work Environment:

Primarily an office environment; occasionally walking or working near moving mechanical equipment, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
