Accounts Payable Lead

CKF Inc. has plants located in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the states of Iowa and Texas, manufacturing numerous types of food packaging and protective packaging.

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Lead to join our finance team and take ownership of the end-to-end Accounts Payable process. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting, this role is responsible for accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, ensuring purchase order (PO) compliance, leveraging automation tools, and working closely with plant operations to resolve discrepancies.

This is a critical role in maintaining compliance, mitigating risk, and driving efficiency through automation and process improvements. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will collaborate with stakeholders across operations, procurement, and finance to promote adherence to process standards, resolve issues at the root cause, and identify and implement best practices.

                                               

Key Responsibilities:

 

Invoice & Payment Processing

  • Accurately process vendor invoices in accordance with company policies and internal controls.
  • Validate invoices against purchase orders and receipts (3-way match) to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor AP automation workflows and resolve exceptions promptly.
  • Prepare and execute weekly payment runs (ACH, wire, cheque) in line with approval policies and fraud prevention standards.
  • Track invoice and payment timelines, escalating delays and collaborating with stakeholders to meet deadlines.

 

Automation & Systems

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for AP automation tools and ERP integration.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and collaborate with IT or vendors to optimize performance.
  • Identify opportunities further automation and process simplification.

 

Vendor & Plant Communication

  • Act as the first point of contact for vendor inquiries on invoice status and payments.
  • Work with plant personnel to resolve invoice/PO discrepancies, missing receipts, or pricing issues.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to procurement, plant management, or finance leadership.

 

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate AP records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Support implementation of internal controls and ensure adherence to company policies.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to improve the internal procurement process, timeliness, and efficiency.
  • Recommend process enhancements to increase visibility of liabilities and plant-level spend.
  • Contribute to finance projects related to vendor terms, working capital, and cash forecasting.

  

Qualifications:

 

Education & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of AP experience with a focus on process improvement and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Experience with ERP systems and AP automation tools.

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of procure-to-pay process and 3-way matching principles.
  • Advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple sites.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and AP automation tools; strong Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, compliance requirements, and fraud prevention practices.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience in process optimization.
