As a Manufacturing Technician (MT) Apprentice, you will learn how to support manufacturing operations, improve workflow efficiency, and ensure smooth product movement within a high-tech fabrication facility.
This IMA-Sponsored Registered Apprenticeship provides structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) paired with Related Technical Instruction (RTI) through the College of Western Idaho (CWI). Upon successful completion, apprentices earn a nationally recognized U.S. Department of Labor credential.
Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to support tool performance, schedule product movement, respond to operational inefficiencies, and verify data accuracy.
Adhere to apprenticeship guidelines, safety protocols, and program requirements from IMA, training partners, and participating employers.
Complete all required safety training and perform work in accordance with established workplace and industry standards.
Assist in monitoring bottlenecks, production queues, and tool status throughout the shift to maintain operational efficiency.
Identify and report issues affecting overall fab performance (e.g., equipment downtime, redundancy issues, process delays) and assist with troubleshooting and resolution.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including optimizing monitoring tools and participating in problem-solving activities.
High School Diploma or GED
Willingness and ability to enroll in the College of Western Idaho’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology Basic Technical Certificate or AAS Degree program
(No prior industry experience required; applicants must meet the math placement requirement.)
Basic to intermediate PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and Zoom
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Reliable and consistent communication skills, both written and verbal
No experience necessary.
Prefer NO manufacturing or mechatronics related courses.
Basic understanding of semiconductor production operations or manufacturing concepts
Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify root causes, and assist in resolving operational issues
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment while managing multiple priorities
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and rotating schedules, depending on employer needs and class schedules
Paid on-the-job training while completing college coursework
Industry-vetted training aligned to national standards
Support from IMA’s apprenticeship sponsor team, workforce coaches, and employer partners
A structured pathway to high-demand technician roles within Idaho’s advanced manufacturing sector
