Purpose of Job:       

To provide high-quality instruction, clinical supervision, and student support within the Practical

Nursing Program. Responsible for delivering assigned curriculum, evaluating student

performance, and maintaining compliance with Oklahoma Board of Nursing standards, ODCTE

requirements, and SouthernTech Board Policy. Works under the direction of the LPN

Coordinator and collaboratively with full-time faculty to ensure a safe and effective learning

environment.

 

Major Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Supports SouthernTech’s quality initiatives including Baldrige, Oklahoma Quality Award Foundation criteria, Tech Centers That Work, and Lean Office principles. 
  2. Provides instruction in assigned theory, lab, simulation, and/or clinical areas following the approved curriculum. 
  3. Maintains accurate student records including attendance, grades, clinical documentation, and required ODCTE/OBN paperwork. 
  4. Evaluates student performance and provides timely feedback on skills, professionalism, and competence. 
  5. Assists with student remediation, tutoring, and support as assigned by the LPN Coordinator. 
  6. Ensures a safe, organized learning environment and enforces safety procedures, dress code, and professional standards. 
  7. Supervises students during clinical experiences, skills labs, simulations, and classroom instruction as assigned. 
  8. Utilizes computer-based instructional tools, LMS platforms, and educational software in delivering instruction. 
  9. Collaborates with full-time faculty and the LPN Coordinator to maintain instructional alignment, assessment consistency, and adherence to program policies. 
  10. Participates in scheduled instructor meetings, required training, professional development, and OBN/ACEN compliance activities as directed. 
  11. Maintains current technical skills and professional competencies relevant to nursing practice and nursing education. 
  12. Assists with coordinating student activities, testing sessions, and clinical experiences under the guidance of the LPN Coordinator. 

 

Other:

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the LPN Coordinator, Adult Health Programs Director, Vice Superintendent, or Superintendent. 
  2. Supports a positive, collaborative learning environment. 
  3. Assists with Long-Term Care (CNA) testing when assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required, BSN required, MSN preferred.
  2. AHA BLS certification required.
  3. Unencumbered Oklahoma RN license.
  4. Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience within the last 5 years.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and educational software applications. 
  2. Ability to work collaboratively as part of the SouthernTech instructional team. 
  3. Ability to maintain professionalism during high-stress situations. 
  4. Strong organizational skills and ability to complete tasks efficiently. 

 

Physical & Mental Requirements:

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods in classroom and clinical environments. 
  2. Ability to use a computer keyboard and related technology. 
  3. Adequate hearing and vision for instructional and clinical supervision. 
  4. Ability to communicate clearly. 
  5. Ability to operate a school vehicle when required. 
  6. Regularly lifts up to 25 lbs (occasionally up to 35 lbs). 
  7. Ability to bend, stoop, and assist with patient-care demonstrations. 

           

Mental Requirements:

  1. Ability to read, interpret, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and clinical partners.
  3. Ability to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, partner facilities, and SouthernTech administration.

  6. Ability to interpret technical instructions and adapt to varied student learning  
  7. Ability to remain composed and professional during stress.
  8. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

 

Work Environment:

Part-time Program Instructors work in classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical environments. Work may involve exposure to mechanical equipment, bodily fluids, odors, airborne particles, and outdoor conditions when supervising clinical activities. Noise levels may vary depending on environment.
